Do you remember those huge catalogs you’d get in the mail? My sisters and I would get so excited to flip through it, creating the picture perfect family from the woman’s, men’s and baby sections. The best part by far, was deciding what themed nursery we wanted from the pages, a car seat, stroller and every imaginable thing we needed for our catalog baby. I’m pretty sure we were the only kids that did this but a) my mom must have enjoyed those couple of hours of peace while we did this, and b) holy imagination!
You could say I’ve always been a baby product guru. From researching the safest car seats to thinking we needed five strollers because “people say this one’s lightweight and easy to fold up!” or “it’s cute, and I don’t even care that it’s pink and I’m having a boy.”
When I heard about Baby Love, KC’s only baby fair, I knew I had to be there. This event featuring local vendors and baby-related companies is held every June and November. As soon as I walked in, I was handed a bag of freebies, and I was on my happy way.
There were educational booths that covered car seat safety, safe sleep, healthy pregnancy tips, and more. At Olathe Medical Center’s space, you could even take a virtual tour of the new Birth Place. I didn’t even care that I had seen it in person, I was spinning circles looking through the virtual goggles!
I even did some shopping at some of the booths and snagged a little brother shirt for him to wear in the hospital. I knew my baby loving daughter would be just as in heaven as her mom so she tagged along with me. There was a face painting/baby belly painting booth that we hit up (only she participated, nobody needs to see this bare belly), giveaways we entered and strollers we got to push around and test out. Don’t worry, I didn’t leave with a new stroller or car seat.
Even though I won’t be pregnant next year, you still may find me at this yearly event. I’m kidding! Maybe …

About the author: My name is Sarah and I’ve been a Kansas gal my whole life; born and raised in Manhattan but have been living in KC for 6 years. I have a degree in Family Studies and Human Services and I’m wife to Derek and mom to Collins (4), Brooks (2) and baby 3 who will arrive this Summer. We are big K-State fans and also cheer for our Royals and Chiefs. We are lucky enough to have a lot of family close by so we enjoy spending as much time as we can with them or doing all the fun things KC has to offer.
