2017 Guide to Holiday Character Appearances in Kansas City

Santa’s Wonderland at Bass Pro Shops (November 11-December 24)
Head to your local Bass Pro Shop for photos with Santa, games, crafts, and activities for the kids!

Visit Santa at Oak Park Mall (November 11-December 24)
Visit Santa in Center Court near Dillard’s. If you’re hoping to time your visit right, please note that Santa takes a break to feed the reindeer from 1 to 2 p.m. and 5 to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 3 to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Santa Claus Express on the Midland Railway (November 16-December 9)
Take a train ride with Santa Claus on the Santa Claus Express! See Santa in his own decorated passenger car (built in 1898), enjoy hot drinks and fresh baked sugar cookies and take pictures of your kids in their favorite pajamas.

Santa Arrives at Crown Center (November 24 | 10 a.m.)
Santa Claus arrives in a horse-drawn carriage to kick off the holiday season. Join Santa as he makes his way to Santa’s Gingerbread Station, where he resides through December 24.

A Country School Christmas (November 25-December 30)
Experience a traditional 1904 old-fashioned Christmas with letter writing to Santa and create-your-own ornaments. Find old-fashioned stocking stuffers in the gift shop during your visit!

Breakfast with Santa at the Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop (November 25, December 9 | 8:30 a.m.)
Enjoy the decorations of the Heritage Center, breakfast (pancakes, sausage, fruit, coffee and juice), crafts, and a visit with Santa. Make an ornament, listen to holiday music and enjoy family time.

Kansas City Parks’ Santa’s Wonderlands (December 1-2)
Join family and friends at one of two local parks for a festive celebration of the holiday season! Events include live music, entertainment, light displays, and a visit from Santa Claus. Dates, times, and locations are as follows:

  • December 1, 6-8 p.m.: Gillham Park
  • December 2, 5:30-8 p.m.: Penguin Park

Visit with Santa at Zona Rosa (December 1-24)
Santa will greet children and listen to their holiday wishes in his winter wonderland in The Grove at Zona Rosa. Santa makes his formal arrival at Zona Rosa at 6 p.m. on December 1 with a fun pajama party for the whole family!

S’mores with Santa: The Polar Express (December 2, 9)
Start a new holiday tradition! Bring the kids downtown for s’mores with Santa at Alamo Drafthouse Kansas City. Enjoy s’mores and watch The Polar Express followed by free photos with Santa after the movie! Bring your own camera for photos.

Holiday Wild at the Kansas City Zoo (December 2-3 | 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m.)
Zoo patrons will have an opportunity to meet Santa, participate in holiday activities, follow along on guided tours, and more. Friends of the Zoo (FOTZ) members can arrive on December 2 between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. for an exclusive breakfast snack and meet-and-greet with Santa! You can also catch Santa diving inside the cold weather penguin exhibit at 2 p.m. and a penguin march outside at 11 a.m.

Breakfast with Santa & Mrs. Claus at Carolyn’s Country Cousins Pumpkin Patch (December 2 | 8-11:30 a.m.)
This gathering at one of our favorite fall destinations includes a full country pancake breakfast, a special craft and Christmas cookie to decorate as well as a visit and photo opportunity with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Breakfast with St. Nicholas at Strawberry Hill Museum (December 2 | 8-11 a.m.)
A $10 fee includes breakfast, a visit with St. Nicholas and one picture.

A Visit from St Nicholas at Shoal Creek Living History Museum (December 2 | 10 a.m.-4 p.m.)
Enjoy a visit with St Nicholas in the Thornton Mansion after taking a walking tour through the museum’s holiday decorated homes and log cabins which are brought to life with re-enactors in 19th century theme. Horse-drawn sleigh rides through the countryside will be provided 12-4 p.m.

Candy Cane Lane at The View (December 8 | 6-8 p.m.)
Take a trip to Candy Cane Lane to visit Santa! Create crafts, decorate cookies and get your photo with Santa after you tell him what you’d like for Christmas. A night of family fun in Grandview!

Whoville Holidays at the City Market (December 9-10, 16-17 | 10:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m.)
Meet the Grinch and Cindy Lou Who in the warmth of Cindy Lou’s Whoville home at the City Market. Bring in three or more non-perishable canned goods benefiting our partners at Harvesters or a new, unwrapped children’s toy benefiting the Salvation Army.

KC Southern Holiday Express Visits Union Station (December 15-19)
Our kids are bound to have fond memories of coming to visit Santa and Mrs. Claus, then hopping aboard the Holiday Express at Christmas time. The Southern Holiday Express (or Rudy, as it is known by many of its visitors!) is parked on the north side of Union Station and guests can walk through the train cars decorated in creative holiday paraphernalia. This event is free and open to the public; no tickets are required.

Cookies with Santa at Lee’s Summit PLAY (December 16 | 9 a.m.-1 p.m.)
Join Kansas City Moms Blog and Lee’s Summit PLAY for a day with Santa! Enjoy cookies and open play at Lee’s Summit’s favorite gathering place for families. Tickets available now!

Brunch with Santa (December 17 | 11 a.m.-2 p.m.)
Santa Claus comes to Kansas City for a fun-filled afternoon including a multi-course brunch, a hot chocolate bar, games, crafts, a puppet show and cookie decorating! Each family will take home a one-of-a-kind professional photo with Santa as well as a special gift from the North Pole.
