It’s almost Spring Break! While in my younger years, this may have meant gathering up all my best girlfriends and heading to a beach to lounge for seven days straight, these days, it begs another question: “What am I going to do with the kids for a whole week?!” While I would love to spend every Spring Break traveling with my family, that’s just not economical every year so we have ended up spending quite a few “vacations” right here in Kansas City. But just because you’re stuck at home, doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to do! Here is a list of our favorite staycation activities in KC:
Great Wolf Lodge: One of our favorite places to visit for a staycation treat is the Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City, Kansas. With a huge indoor water park, arcade and other activities, Great Wolf Lodge can’t be beat for fun no matter what the weather might be. My kids love everything about this place, but one of their favorite parts is the bedtime stories the staff provide in the main lobby each evening. It’s a fantastic way to wind down after a busy day! They are running a deal for Spring Break with special pricing March 10 through April 16. Click here for more info!
Kansas City Zoo: The zoo is always a winner with my kids who range in age from elementary to preschool. There is something for everyone at the zoo! Over Spring Break, they offer day camps and special activities. Their Spring Break Pathfinder Camp is a favorite of my older daughter. The kids spend three days at the zoo, and this year, the theme is all about animal families! Click here for more information.
The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art: We love heading to the Nelson because it’s not only FREE, but it’s also amazing. You can partake in any of the free age-appropriate tours, have a picnic in the sculpture garden or just wander through your favorite displays. My daughter loves finding the Monet and impressionist painters, while my son is a big fan of the epic Chinese art displays. Click here for a calendar of events happening at the Nelson in the months ahead.
Orange Easel Art: This amazing art school located in Liberty, Missouri features two learning spaces including one classroom designed solely to meet the needs of preschool and toddler artists. Their popular Spring Break camp has already sold out but you can view Orange Easel’s entire listing of classes for all ages here.
Sports Camps: If your child wants to work on some sports skills over break (or you just want them to run off some energy), finding a good sports camp could be the way to go! For example, Blue Valley Recreation offers a multitude of Spring Break camps for kids aged 7-13. Activities range from soccer to softball to basketball and more.
YMCA Camp: The Kansas City YMCA offers a great Spring Break camp at Camp Naish (located in Olathe). Campers explore the great outdoors every day, develop new skills and learn about nature, all while meeting new friends. Activities range from archery to crafts, nature hikes to camp songs, and fun games. You can learn more here.
