2015 was a great year for Kansas City Moms Blog! Our readers connected with our team of moms like never before – both through our online content and with more than 1,000 area moms through our KCMB Neighborhood Mom Groups. We ended 2015 (literally!) with some great events and have even more planned for 2016!
Without further ado – here are our ten most popular posts published in 2015!
1. Eight Things I Don’t Do Since Becoming a Mom (and 1 Thing I Do)
I don’t even try to drink a hot cup of coffee anymore. I might even prefer iced coffee nowadays since I already expect it be cold. That way, I’m not disappointed when I go take my first drink 37 minutes after I originally brewed my cup and it’s room temperature.
2. Nobody Told Me About Mesh Panties
I was acing this test with flying colors. That is, until the nurse handed me a white plastic bag and said, “here’s everything you’ll need.” Need? For what? Clearly, I had skipped a course in my Pregnancy 101 curriculum.
3. The Four Letter Word Every Mom Should Use
I remember the first time I said it. My son was 14 months old (why did I wait so long?), and we were in the middle of a three month long ear infection while we waited on his tube surgery the next week.
I couldn’t have a drinking problem if I was working 50 hours a week at a high stress job, raising two kids, cooking healthy dinners and creating Pinterest-worthy birthday parties! As long as I was acting the part of the best mom in the world, I figured my dirty, little secret would stay hidden.
5. Why We Didn’t Redshirt Our Kindergartner
My youngest, Finn, turned five last June and my husband and I devoted approximately three and a half seconds of serious thought to holding him back. Our entire lack of consideration to redshirting him seemed to surprise some people, some of whom had pretty vocal opinions on the matter.
6. To the Women Who Raise My Child
For the next nine hours, my son will be in the care of his three teachers. They will get to spend their day with him. Watching him play, making him laugh and rocking him to sleep, all while I will be at my desk, working. And not working by choice, but because my family depends on it.
7. Best Indoor Play Spaces in Kansas City
Winter is finally here and everyone is getting antsy for indoor fun. In this post, KCMB contributor (and Kansas City Tot Spot founder) Caroline has compiled her favorite spots for keeping the kids busy when it’s too chilly for the park.
8. That’s a Good Way to Kill a Baby
Sophie and Jude, 8 and almost 7, seem to have fallen in love with their new baby brother, 9 months and cruising. They are so loving and playful, so patient… not at all like they are with each other. They also sent him to the emergency room at 7 months.
9. A Tidy Home Makes Me a Better Mom
I am happiest and most relaxed when I have a clean house. More than that, I am more apt to sit and read and play with my kids when my house is straightened up. If there is stuff all over the place, and I choose to “be a mother first,” I can’t give my children my full and utmost attention. I just can’t.
10. Diary of a Girly Girl Raising Boys
Besides the dog, I’m the only girl in the house. I’m a girly girl living in a house with three boys — one big and two small ones — all of whom register off-the-charts on the dude scale.
