Help! I’m in a Hair Funk

Ok mommas, lets get real for a moment. I have not cut my hair in six months. It’s not because I haven’t tried. I tried numerous times. It was usually was put on the back burner because something came up  – work, my kids school projects, sports practice or game, or just my laziness – there is always something. Why isn’t there a hair salon open at 10 p.m.?

It’s been at least four years since I have had my hair cut in a fancy hair salon. You know the type that has fruit in the water and there are no signs of screaming children. These days, how I decide where we get our hair cut at is by whatever chain hair salon Siri tells me is closest to the soccer field or basketball game we were just at or by what chain hair salon coupon I receive in the mail.  It’s safe to say I am in desperate need of help.

My hair is naturally curly which means that I can turn into a frizz ball at the first sign of humidity. I usually keep it cut in a short, layered bob and blow dry it straight and flat iron it to control the frizz. My naturally curly hair grows sideways and since I haven’t had a hair cut in six months, I have been stuck with a head of hair the size of Texas. You could hide a several Tonka trucks in my hair. Believe me, my three-year-old has tried.

Enter in my fairy hairmother, Kendra, from Beauty Brands in Shawnee. In partnership with Living Proof, Beauty Brands gave me a makeover complete with hair and makeup services from Beauty Brands’ expert team of stylists. Kendra took this momma under her wings and gave me a much needed hair transformation. I told her that I was putty in her hands and she could do whatever she wanted. Let’s be real, I’ve neglected my hair for six months so I probably shouldn’t make any decisions about my hair any time soon! The one thing that I did need was a hairstyle that is easy to do in the mornings and won’t keep me from getting out of the door on time with my two boys.

We started with color. Kendra put the foil to work with caramel balayage highlights. Balayage is a combination of highlights and an ombre without the upkeep to add a pop of color. I liked the word balayage because it reminded me of Beyonce. So I already felt cool. And I knew I was in good hands because Beauty Brands’ stylists pride themselves on being the expert on hair as a go-to source on hair styling, inspiration advice and solutions to make women feel confident everyday!

After the most amazing scalp massage and scalp scrub, Kendra,  my fairy hairmother, convinced me to keep the curls. Kendra said she could cut my hair so that I could wear it curly or straight. We decided to keep the length. She cut it with a combination of scissors and a razor and took a lot of weight out of my hair so it lays flat. Kendra assured me that my hair would not be the size of Texas if she had anything to do with it!

So here is where I got nervous. I do not know how to take care of curly hair. My fairy hairmother assured me she could help. She introduced me to Living Proof hair products. Living Proof has products specific to fight frizz, which is exactly what my curly tresses need. A bonus is that they all smell really good! It’s clear Beauty Brands is a great source for the best product solutions and advice for every mama to improve her hair health and style.

We started with the Living Proof no frizz shampoo and conditioner which helps to cleanse, smooth, detangle and condition my frizz-prone hair. Kendra prepped my hair for a diffuser blow dry with Restore Perfecting Spray, right away it made my dry, damaged hair look and feel strong, smooth, soft and shiny.

She then finished with No Frizz Humidity Shield, which delivers weightless protection without build-up, so it won’t deflate my style. It provides 6x more humidity protection and protects against damage from UV rays and has static control. The products Kendra picked out for me will help keep moisture in my hair and fight frizz so I can embrace my curls. When I do blow dry and flat iron my hair, Kendra suggested that I use the Living Proof  Restore Smooth Blowout Concentrate, it will give my coarse, thick hair a smooth, easy and visibly healthier blowout and  cut down my blow dry time and tame my frizz. Kendra said that if I am consistent with the Living Proof products, I should see a huge improvement in my hair.  Living Proof goes beyond an instant quick fix to help you get hair that’s visibly healthier over time.

My fairy hairmother had her work cut out for her, but Kendra helped this momma come out of her hair funk. I am so happy with my new hair and it has actually been really easy to recreate at home in under 10 minutes!
