KCMB Playdate Recap: Teddy Bear Dental Clinic

A trip to the dentist can sometimes be scary for little ones and intimidating for parents. That’s why Kansas City Moms Blog teamed up with Dr. Ryan Francois from Pediatric Smiles to host a Teddy Bear Clinic to make it less stressful on everyone! This fun, interactive playdate at Pediatric Smiles helped the kids get comfortable with a visit to the dentist and parents got to have one on one time with Dr. Francois and his team.

As families arrived, they were able to check in at the front desk and choose their favorite color bear, from US Toy. The “bear patients” were taken by the children to stations around the office so children could see what a real checkup was like. The first station was the height and weight area where the bears  were measured.

Next up, they went over to the x-ray machine to show kids how cool and not so scary this machine is. Dr. Francois showed the kids a real x-ray image of a mouth and guessing/counting teeth was a fun activity for them. Kids were then led over to the check-up station to learn how to floss and brush the bear’s teeth. The kids really got in to the brushing part and Dr. Francois reminded us of the 2:2:2 rule – brush twice a day for two minutes (with help from mom and dad) and see your dentist twice a year! On to the last top, a quick pic at the No Cavity Club where we discussed foods that Dr. Francois told the kids to stay away from to stay cavity free – gummies being the #1 culprit!

And finally, like any good playdate, there were snacks, prizes provided by Lego Land and Sea Life and of course crafts – the kids put down their bears for a minute and got busy making tooth fairy boxes to take home with them.
