A legend lives in my Instagram and Facebook feeds. This legend strikes fear into the hearts of some, and makes others laugh hysterically. They are some of my most Liked and commented on posts ever. If you’re prone to nightmares, maybe look away. Otherwise, grab a tissue for when you start to tear up, or maybe go use the bathroom now… you know, in case your children gifted you with amazing bladder control. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
The Legend herself:
Creepy Baby Margaret
For years this little baby lived quietly stuffed in a toy bin. She was often looked over when any of my four children were looking for a toy. Suddenly in the summer of 2014 her fate changed, when my 3.5 year old daughter Lily discovered the little doll, and began toting it around with her. The doll remained nameless for a few months, until Daniel Tiger’s sister Margaret was born….
Yep – the doll was named after a character in Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood! My sweet Lily never calls her “creepy baby Margaret” – she’s just “Margaret,” or “Baby Margaret” to her. The baby also hasn’t always been so creepy….
Exhibit A – In the early days she was just a normal baby doll, riding around in a sandal.
But then Lily started using “face paint,” aka pens and markers, on poor Margaret’s face. Suddenly she was getting a little odd looking, and it just snowballed from there. Exhibit B – incidentally also the first time I publicly referenced the doll as being “a little creepy”… Hmmmm.
Lily placed this next to me and said Baby Margaret was going to help me…. #kindacreepy A photo posted by Helen (@helen_ransom) on Nov 17, 2014 at 1:30pm PST
Poor Creepy Baby Margaret has been stuffed into all sorts of odd things, cardboard tubes, bags, sandals, slippers, tissue boxes, various toys, etc. The most stuffed item though? Socks – it’s what makes them feel “snuggled” according to Lily. I dunno, maybe my girl is a genius and we should market these new kinds of swaddles!
Oh yeah – and there was the mailbox… Oh, how I wish I’d been home when the mailman opened the mailbox and found that doll staring back up at him! (And yes – the mail was just stuffed on top of the doll.)
How much do you suppose the mailman jumped, when he opened our box and found a #CreepyBabyMargaret looking up at him? Kinda wish I’d been home for that! Bahahahaha! ? A photo posted by Helen (@helen_ransom) on Mar 24, 2015 at 12:32pm PDT
Lily and The Margarets go on lots of adventures. She’s brought them all to my photography studio and insisted on a little photo shoot, they’ve been on vacation with us, car rides around town, and they are constantly having adventures here at home, often times involving imaginary scenarios I would never dream of.

Sooo…. apparently #creepybabymargaret had an earache, and a sock over the head helps. A photo posted by Helen (@helen_ransom) on Mar 25, 2015 at 6:07am PDT
As you can see, The Margarets have continued to multiply. Numbers 2, 3, and 4 were given to her last Christmas, and I’m not sure where or when she acquired number 5, but I know that number 6 was added in early December, when I won it at a White Elephant swap. Sure, it was swaddled and laying in a manger, but clearly this was not Baby Jesus… I knew deep down inside it was a coveted Creepy Baby Margaret! Plus, this one came with a certificate of authenticity – sweet!
Then we came to Christmas morning 2015…. two bunk bed sets and four new Creepy Baby Margarets!
Let the #CreepyBabyMargaret adventures continue!
