The Woodlands Resort: A Family Vacation Destination

Every mom looks forward to those rare moments when she can sneak away – for coffee, for an afternoon of errands, for a moms night out – but an entire weekend? Moments like those are hard to come by.

Now – imagine having the motive (this year’s City Moms Blog Network Sister Site Conference), the ability (thanks to supportive husbands and families back home!), and the host (The Woodlands Resort in Houston, Texas) for just such a weekend … and then immediately upon arrival, finding yourself wishing your family was there to enjoy it with you? Can you believe such a thing?

It’s true – and if you’ve ever had the opportunity to visit The Woodlands Resort (or know someone who has), then surely you know exactly what I’m talking about. A day’s drive (or a quick two hour flight!) from Kansas City, The Woodlands Resort is a perfect destination getaway for spouses and families alike.

First impressions are everything – and after climbing out of an Uber driver’s car with a fellow site owner, the first thing I noticed was construction … and lots of it! Now, while this might sound like a bad thing when considering a quiet getaway, you should know that The Woodlands Resort is putting the finishing touches on a $60 million renovation, complete with 184 new guest rooms and suites, a transformation of the resort’s existing guest rooms, and the addition of a 1,000+ foot lazy river that winds through the resort’s surrounding forest area. Our weekend accommodations couldn’t have been better! The on-site staff members were friendly and inviting, ready to do all they could to make our stay an enjoyable one.

If you’re looking for an inclusive resort experience for you or your family, The Woodlands Resort offers the following amenities:

  • 36 holes of championship golf courses
  • 21-court tennis facility
  • more than 194 miles of jogging and biking trails
  • bike rentals
  • 5 swimming pools with spas, waterfalls, and slides including a recreation pool, lagoon pool, toddler play pool, and Puffy’s Sprayground
  • 1,005-foot lazy river
  • water volleyball and basketball
  • seasonal poolside entertainment (s’mores, movies and bands)
  • full-service business center

While the pools are open year-round (seriously, how lucky is Houston?!), the slides and lazy rivers are only open during their peak season (Memorial Day to Labor Day). Also, all of the resort’s facilities can only be used by guests – so, you won’t have to worry about fighting crowds at the pool or on the golf course!

The Woodlands Resort offers four on-site restaurants, as well as an additional upscale steakhouse that just opened last month. As a mom traveling alone for an entire weekend, you can imagine that fixing meals was the furthest thing from my mind; thankfully, the restaurant staff here went above and beyond to make sure we walked away from every dining experience feeling happy and well-fed (is well over-fed a word? If so, then that’s what I was!). If you’re looking to experience more of Houston during your stay, then know that The Woodlands Resort is surrounded by a plethora of shopping, dining, and entertainment options just a short drive from the resort’s front gates.
