Where Kids Play and Adults Eat Food Without Paper Wrappers

Last spring Sarah wrote a fantastic post on places where kids play and moms work in Kansas City. I loved it and immediately visited all three!  It’s great to have a few places on your rotation that are kid friendly but DON’T require purchases of greasy food… in paper wrappers.  I happen to know a few more hidden gems, that I just had to share with the Kansas City Moms community.

Eden Alley
707 West 47th Street
Kansas City, MO 64112
Not everyone knows that this longtime vegetarian favorite on the Country Club Plaza has a great play area inside! Keep your little one entertained, while dining on much healthier fare than is usually offered along side a play area. The farm to table menu even offers options that are vegan, gluten free, nut free, or soy free. They also have free wifi, and $4 kids meals, yeah!

KC Bier Company
310 West 79th Street
Kansas City, MO 64114
I know what you’re thinking… what?? Why would I take my kids there? Well, last spring my family visited relatives in Munich, one aspect we especially enjoyed were the family friendly bier gardens. Outdoor spaces with play areas and tables for mom and dad to have a beer, or just a sausage or pretzel while the kids play. We were THRILLED to learn that Kansas City had recently added its own version! The KC Bier Company has an outdoor beer garden with a little play area, and room to run and bring your own toys as well (we like trucks and balls). You can of course order beer, but there are also non-alcoholic options along with sausages, soft pretzels and other Bavarian fare. In the European spirit, this is NOT to encourage excessive drinking around your children – make sure you are being responsible!

IKEArestaurant 1
6000 IKEA Way
Merriam, KS 66202
Wait don’t they just sell furniture? Well, that’s true, but they also have a dining area with a selection of Swedish inspired dishes, free coffee and wifi for IKEA “family” members, and a great kids area with small tables and chairs, toys, and a flat screen playing Disney movies. If your little one is potty trained, there’s even a play area with childcare attendants where you can check them in and go shop or eat in peace! (We’re not to that stage quite yet so I can’t comment on that part with experience.)

What are your favorite places to eat or drink with a kid that don’t involve food in paper wrappers?
